Roving Japan is the blog of Risa and Scott Saunders. In 2009, we are going to move to Japan and spend 4 months traveling from southern Kyushu to Tokyo. Our plan is to travel by train from Tokyo to Kagoshima, stopping for a few days in Himeji, and Hiroshima on the way. Once we arrive in Kagoshima, we will take a ferry to the island of Yakushima for a couple of days of hiking. After Yakushima, will return to Kagoshima and begin our long trek back to Tokyo. On Foot.
The most challenging aspect of our journey will be the long hike from Kagoshima to Tokyo. But we believe that it will also be the most rewarding. We hope to really experience Japanese culture, and earn a new respect for our new home. We are very excited to explore at a more relaxed pace. No set timetables, no strict itinerary. Our only constraint is to be back in Tokyo by mid-August.
